Whistler Calvados Cask Finish

The Whistler Calvados Cask Finish Irish Whiskey is part of a trilogy of sourced whiskeys from Boann Distillery in Drogheda, Co. Meath. Boann started distilling their own spirit in 2019 but has been offering sourced expressions since 2016.  The Whistler range is reportedly named after owner Pat Cooney. In December 2022, Boann released their first distilled Irish Whiskey, a single pot still called Solstice. Boann has laid down historical mash bills mirroring recipes from the golden age of Irish Whiskey. Until those are ready for release we can enjoy their vast range of sourced offerings. The Cask Finish Series is...

Oak Devil Irish Whiskey Review

Oak Devil is the core range blended expression from Dublin Liberties Distillery. This is a perfect Halloween Irish Whiskey given the history behind the name. But it can be enjoyed all month long in October given its classic Fall flavor profile. Hell, why not enjoy it all year long for that matter? The Liberties is one of Dublin's oldest neighborhoods and earned its name from its original history outside the city center wall. Outside the primary jurisdiction, the neighborhood had the 'liberty' to form their own rules and customs and was "notorious for mayhem and riotous behaviour with danger and...

The Irishman - The Harvest

The Harvest is the signature expression in the Irishman Irish Whiskey range. It was the first whiskey released by Walsh Whiskey from Co. Carlow. back in 2007 with the original name Founders Reserve. In 2022, it was rebranded along with new packaging and renamed 'The Harvest' to honor the contribution farming has in the Irish Whiskey making process. The whiskey itself retained its very unique style. The Harvest is a blend of 70% Single Malt and 30% Single Pot Still. The brand carved out its own niche by not containing any grain in the blend. The Harvest is part of...

Green Spot Quail's Gate

Quail's Gate is the latest expression in the Green Spot lineup. The third release as part of the "Wine Geese" range, Quail's Gate launched in March 2023 as a Limited Edition.  Green Spot is one of the original Dublin pot still whiskeys from famed Mitchell & Sons Wine Merchants. With its cult-like following, travelers to Dublin would make this a sought after acquisition up until about 10 years ago. With its Coming to America launch in the USA, Green Spot became widely available. My review of the original Greenspot can be found here. The Wine Geese name is a take-off...

Dunville's 1808

Dunville's 1808

Dunville's 1808 Irish Whiskey blend is the epitome of a comeback story. Once one of the most popular and famous Irish Whiskey brands, Dunville's went extinct almost a century ago. Luckily for all of us, the brand was revived by the Echlinville Distillery ten years ago.  The brand's origins date back to the beginning of the 19th century when Dunville & Company started as a whiskey blender. Their two blends, Dunville's VR and Dunville's Three Crowns were extremely popular, making them some of the best selling and most famous Irish whiskeys in the world. As a result Dunville & Co. built a...
