Next Parish Over - IWSA Limited Edition

Posted by Irish Whiskey USA on

Irish Whiskey Society America is excited to announce our 2nd Irish Whiskey bottling released for August 2024. This Single Malt Irish Whiskey is a collaboration with Jack Ryan Whiskey Co. We named our whiskey 'Next Parish Over' as a homage to our club's origin story back in 2010.
The Ryan family has over a 100 year whiskey history in Dublin as finishers, bonders, and pub owners. For the past dozen years, the family has released a series of Single Malt Irish Whiskeys under the Jack Ryan brand. Releases have paid respect to the family with single malt expressions named after locations tracing the history of six generations of Ryans. Many of these whiskeys can be enjoyed in the family owned pub Ryan's Beggars Bush in the Ballsbridge section of Dublin. For the IWSA collaboration with Jack Ryan, we continued the tradition by naming the whiskey in honor of our Boston roots.
In October 2010, a few Irish Whiskey fans met in the now defunct Whiskey Priest pub in Boston to discuss forming the American chapter of the Irish Whiskey Society which had started in Dublin a year earlier. All these years later, the pub is gone (replaced with a seaport skyscraper) but we are still going strong with members in 42 states across the USA. We now celebrate those humble beginnings with 'Next Parish Over' a reference to Boston, the US capital city with the highest percentage of Irish descent citizens and closest geographically to Ireland.
Next Parish Over is a lovely 6 year single malt Irish Whiskey bottled at 46% abv. Double distilled from Great Northern Distillery. Jack Ryan Whiskey Finishers initially matured the whiskey for 5 years in an ex-bourbon cask before transferring to an Oloroso Sherry cask. After 9 months, 50% of the whiskey was transferred to a unique French Grenache wine cask from Domaine la Sarabande vineyard for 7 months of finishing. In all, the single malt was finished for 16 months between the two wine casks. The whiskey aged for 76 months making it a 6 year single malt. Next Parish Over is a Limited Edition of 150 hand numbered 700ml bottles.
The bottle label design for Next Parish Over celebrates Boston. An image of the city skyline features prominently on the front of the bottle under the Jack Ryan Dublin Whiskey Finishers Logo. The blue and yellow colors of the bottom front label are consistent with the city's flag and also represent the Boston Strong movement inspired by the Boston Marathon following the 2013 terrorist bombing at the finish line.
The Grenache wine finish makes this very unique for an Irish Whiskey (at least as of 2024). Grenache wine has medium acidity and tannins but is higher in alcohol. Red fruit like raspberry and strawberry are common flavors with Grenache wine.  The special wine cask is from Domaine la Sarabande, a boutique, family owned vineyard located in the Faugères region of southern France.
Tasting Notes:
NOSE:          Orange blossom, flower petals, manuka honey and peaches
PALATE:       Tinned pears and pineapple, fresh oranges with the flesh

Irishmalts is the leading online global retailer of Irish spirits. The company started in County Cork back in 2018, filling a huge need. The burgeoning Irish spirits industry was provided a huge distribution channel to US consumers. Given the small size and inventory of many craft distilleries starting out, establishing their brands through traditional retail stores in the US was extremely difficult and costly. Irishmalts allowed many brands to gain a US following. The IWSA is proud of our relationship with Irishmalts since the beginning. IWSA members receive 10% off order purchases from the Irishmalts website. We are excited to be bringing 'Next Parish Over' to members exclusively through Irishmalts.com.
