Paddy's Day Sidecar - An Irish Whiskey Cocktail
Posted by Irish Whiskey USA on
The Paddy's Day Sidecar is an Irish twist on this classic cocktail. Besides being delicious, this cocktail will have you green with envy for Saint Patrick's Day. Leave the green beer for the 'amateurs' and whip up this cocktail instead.
The exact origins of the original Sidecar cocktail are a little murky but it is believed to have been popularized after the end of World War I. It is often considered the greatest cocktail to evolve from the Prohibition era. Some think it was created a century earlier in New Orleans with a different name and brought to Europe by bartenders during the dry days of the US Volstead Act. Most origins story do agree that the name sprung from the sidecar of a motorbike which first went on sale in 1914.
The original Sidecar cocktail was made with 3 ingredients: Cognac, Orange liqueur, and lemon juice. The Paddy's Day Sidecar replaces the Cognac with Irish whiskey. Blue Curacao is the go to orange liqueur. When combined with the orange juice, you have the perfect green cocktail for Saint Patrick's Day. Notes of both sweet and sour make this a highly enjoyable and easy to prepare drink.
